NBA Funding for Community Ministries

We are pleased to invite grant applications from Baptist Churches and associated Trusts in the Northern Association region.

Is your organisation thinking of starting a new way to serve the community or needs a grant to grow the work you already do? The grants are available to support new and developing community ministries in the region. The grants panel and will consider applications for operational and, possibly, capital costs.

BFL’s Object:

According to the Constitution of BFL, 3.1(a), the object for which the Company is established is for its profits, income and capital to be used solely to undertake any Charitable Purpose in New Zealand approved by the Shareholder, with particular emphasis on the advancement of the Christian faith through the work of the Baptist Union in the Northern Region (and the wider Baptist Churches across New Zealand).

BFL’s Vision, Mission & Values:

Vision: A growing asset base providing returns that enable churches and ministries to have ongoing impact in their local communities.

Mission: To provide excellent and ethical financial stewardship ensuring sustainable growth. We fund ministry support that delivers Kingdom impact, primarily but not exclusively, through the Northern Baptist Association.

The Board, together with any appointed staff and advisors, having regard to the vision and mission, shall consider the following fundamental values of BFL, both in relation to the interpretation of this SIPO, and in the investment of funds by BFL:

  • Integrity: We operate with transparency, ethical management, and accountability in all transactions and partnerships.
  • Kingdom Impact: We discern appropriate levels of risk to generate outcomes that enable others to impact the Kingdom through the mission of the Baptist churches of NZ.
History / Context

During 2023 a restructure process was begun that sought to eliminate many years of cashflow deficits that was eroding the assets of the Northern Baptist Assocition (NBA). Additionally the NBA had developed into a complex array of entities with multiple discconected boards; the premise behind the restructure was that simple structures + effective governance = better outcomes for churches, and the goal was to ultimately provide an effective platform for a sustainable future. This restructure would see BFL becoming the entity that holds and manages all NBA assets with the prime directive of deriving sufficient income to both fund the ministry of the NBA through its churches, and over time to produce the financial means for growing churches and missional initiatives into the future.

The plans and progress of the restructure was communicated at the NBA Regional Hui in 2023, 2024 and 2025, and at the AGM’s in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
